Spotlight On!: Best of the Blogs – August '07 Edition
Metablogging, Spotlight On! August 31st, 2007
I have about 60 cocktail blogs in my Google feed, and while I share what I find most interesting or striking or well-written in my left-hand sidebar, I realized that there are certain posts that stick with me and I may return to multiple times to ensure I’ve garnered everything bit of pith, mirth, or wisdom they have to offer. And now, I’d like to share them with you. I thought about a ‘Top 10′, but obviously my tastes and appetite are far too broad and gregarious for such pedestrian limitations. Which is a fancy way of saying, ‘Suck it, Letterman. I like all of these.’
In chronological order:
- Jay on ‘Of Campari and Bitters’
- Michael provides a Maraschino liqueur comparison in ‘Maraschino Barbarino’
- Scott mixes some Caipirinhas for a cachaca taste test in ‘3 Caipirinhas’
- Darcy invites us to make all the bitters a man can stand in ‘Bitters’ and Jay serves up a fantastic review of 5 orange bitter brands in ‘Orange Bitters’
- Paul goes all War of 1812 on us in ‘In eighteen fourteen we took a little trip…’
- Robert’s full interview of Paul in ‘Cocktails in Salon’
- Darcy gives a contrarian view of the ‘Aviation Cocktail’ and Jay tries the original (with Creme de Violette), and still loves it with ‘The Original Aviation’
- Listen up, ladies, Morgenthaler discusses the safety of drinking while pregnant in ‘Drinking while Pregnant, It’s Cool, Right?’
- Your truly reviews 3 premium gins and gets nerdy tips from a distiller in ‘Fight Night!: Premium Gins – Vol. II’ (listing myself? You call it gauche, I call it honest, foo)
- Rick makes you thirsty in his ‘Tiki Photo Contest Results’
- Doug pulls an old Art of Drinks post and riffs on a nerdified eGullet topic to great effect in ‘Pointless but funny stuff…’
- I love a good rant, and Keith serves one up in ‘Two Posts in One Day!!!’
- Marleigh takes a beautiful shot and gets me all a-twitter to try this drink in ‘Floradora’
- Phil, at the Great American Distiller’s Festival gives us a great rundown of some hard-to-find gins and rums with ‘GADF Post #2, Gin and Rum’
- And, of course, Gwen did a fantastic job serving up a plethora of orange goodness by hosting ‘MXMO XVII: Orange’
As you can see, I’m partial to depth in my blog reading and I recommend all of these heartily. And, of course, all opinions expressed are my own and in no way reflect those of my employer, my family, my pets, anyone I’ve ever known, anyone living in the vicinity of Betelgeuse, or myself. Enjoy them over the weekend, enjoy with a drink, and lose yourself for an hour or two educating and amusing yourself. But, most of all, enjoy.
What do you think I missed? Share your best of the month with us too! Cheers.
