I did some field tests for a bunch of different ginger beers on New Years, making Moscow Mules, Dark and Stormies and a combo of Rye, Absinthe, Lime and Ginger Beer.

I used absolutely no scientific method and relied solely on my subjective observations to form my opinion. Thus, purely relying on this anecdotal evidence,

I am been starting to think that Maine Root has just too much damn bite for most people and that Regatta is the most well rounded. I still like Maine Root in a dark and stormy, but find it overpowering in a moscow mule or any drink with Rye whiskey.

Also, I find some people like the artificial flavors of cock and bull-type ginger beer better than real ginger. So much so that they will reject anything that is as gingery as Maine Root.

Fentiman's to me is the most interesting as far as flavor range.

Still cannot find Fever Tree in stores.

Recently I almost bought Diet Regatta by accident, yikes.

Aron. it's never too late for more ginger beer, email on the way.

And, Strohstrander, I agree Goya is great stuff but its heavy addition of capsicum means it's not a traditional enough ginger beer to put it at the top of the heap. A great deal of its heat comes from its chili component which, while exactly what I'm looking for at times, means the ginger heat is lost behind it and that's what I'm looking for first and foremost.

Is it too late to add another ginger product into the mix? If not please e-mail with me your address and a sample will go out same day.

Cheers,
Aron

Not exactly a ginger beer - but you'll love this. It's got more kick and no fizz. http://www.prometheussprings.com/lemonginger/
