I’d never heard of electronic cigarettes until I was out to dinner the other night in a non-smoking restaurant. I noticed someone a couple tables over using a cigarette, or at least what looked like a cigarette. So, I questioned the waiter. He said it was actually an electronic cigarette, which was acceptable in most areas where smoking was allowed.
I was intrigued because immediately half a dozen people popped into my head that could really benefit from giving up smoking, and this seemed like a good way to help them out. Most importantly, I wanted my son to quit before ruined his life.
I went online to do a little research and found out they’ve been around since 1995, but only in the last few years have they been widely available. I did find that there are no clinical trials that have been done long term or any other research that could say electronic cigarettes are healthier than regular cigarettes, but I do believe this to be true because they don’t have any of the carcinogens and hundreds of other ingredients in them that the traditional cigarette has.
When a person inhales as they would on your regular cigarette, it puts out a kind of mist thing with maybe half a dozen ingredients, which are really not considered to be toxic or cancer-causing. When you look at your traditional cigarette tobacco is the harmful ingredient and the smoke is what can you kill you, because it is can cause lung cancer and so many other illnesses.
Another thing I found in my research is that everyone will test positive for nicotine, even if it’s a very small amount. It is actually an ingredient found in many vegetables and a material called nicotinic acid is actually the vitamin known as Niacin or Vitamin B3, so to unilaterally say its harmful would be incorrect.
Now I am the type of person that likes to research new things that come across my path and I’m really glad I discovered electronic cigarettes. They’ve been able to help my son and several other family members to quit smoking and start to enjoy a healthier, happier life while still getting the satisfaction they need from the action of smoking a cigarette.
