After hearing some friends talk about Vaporin ecigs, I decided to check them out and see how they compared to the other brands I’ve reviewed for CocktailNerd. Vaporin has a lot of options to choose from with 7 starter kits, 5 nicotine strengths, 11 flavors, and their own line of e-liquids.
I tried the “On the Go” kit, which you can buy online for $19.99. It comes with one battery, 2 cartomizers, and a USB charger. This is a really affordable starter kit, but keep in mind that you will probably want to buy a few accessories to make it more convenient if you decide to use this brand long-term. I would definitely suggest a wall charger and another battery at a minimum.
Because this is their lowest priced kit, it only comes in tobacco or menthol flavors. The nicotine strength is high for both kits, so if you want other nicotine levels or flavors, you will have to buy additional cartridges separately. It comes in a small flip-top box, kind of like a pack of cigarettes, but a little larger. The battery is white and the cartridge is tan so it looks similar to a cigarette. When you are vaping, the tip turns green, which is a neat feature. I’ve seen endless blue tips and a few yellow, red, or even white tips. But this was the first time I’ve seen one that lights up green.
When I tried out my Vaporin kit, I was really happy with the overall product. For such a small, lightweight ecig, it had really good vapor production that ranks similar to what you get with South Beach Smoke. The throat hit was perfect for me: not too strong, but not too weak either. It was just a good balance of vapor, throat hit, and tobacco flavor.
The tobacco cartridge reminded me of a regular Marlboro Red cigarette. I think most smokers would like it and it would make a good transition e-cig to help people get started with vaping by using a similar flavor. On the other hand, I didn’t love the menthol flavor quite so much. It tasted kind of like a menthol candy more than a menthol cigarette. Plus the vapor was reduced and the throat hit was a little too mild.
Even though the On the Go kit only comes with tobacco or menthol cartridges, you do have the option to branch out and try some of the other flavors that Vaporin offers. You can pick from tobacco, classic tobacco, menthol, cherry, vanilla, chocolate, apple, strawberry, peach, pina colada, and coffee. They also offer 5 nicotine strengths. So your real customization comes with ordering refill cartridges and your starter kit is really just a first step to let you test the waters and see if you like their e-cigs in the first place.
Ultimately, I think Vaporin offers a really good e-cig that will appeal to a lot of people. I won’t be surprised at all if it starts to creep up in ratings over the next few weeks or months as more people discover their new kits and cartridge flavor options.
