You’ll Never Guess Who’s Getting Into The Vaping Business Now You’ll Never Guess Who’s Getting Into The Vaping Business Now

Former NBA star Lamar Odom is the latest celebrity to jump into the CBD market with his own vape pen

Vaping has quickly grown from an unknown alternative nicotine delivery system to one of the cleanest and fastest growing ways to get not only nicotine into your system but also a growing number of medications, including CBD. At the same time, legislators around the world are debating how to handle regulating these potentially game-changing devices, as well as natural treatments such as CBD. Those in favor point to the growing number of people whose life has been significantly improved thanks to this simple substance, especially those living with epilepsy.

For these reasons, as well as his own personal experiences, former NBA star Lamar Odom recently announced he’s launching his very own brand of CBD vape pens. This move comes as CBD becomes one of the hottest alternative treatments for a myriad of conditions. So while legislators are still debating the efficacy of vaping, it’s become quite clear it can serve a much wider purpose than simply being an alternative nicotine delivery system. So much so in fact, this growing market has attracted plenty of investors like Odom who hope their star power will get their brand over the top.

The Odom Pen

CBD has exploded in popularity over the last couple of years as an effective treatment for several debilitating conditions, such as epilepsy and chronic pain. With all the attention has come a fair share of celebrities looking to cash in on the craze. But at least for Lamar Odom, the CBD fight is a personal one. He credits CBD as being a primary factor in his recovery after a much publicized 2015 overdose which led to twelve strokes and six heart attacks, nearly killing him. With his personal experience, comes an added level of love and care that goes into the Odom pens according to the former Los Angeles Laker.

The pens will be released by well-known brand Five Star Juice and be formally introduced during this year’s Tobacco Plus Expo in Vegas. After a short introductory period, they will be available for purchase at vendors across the country. Only time will tell if the Odom pen is a success, but CBD has undoubtedly proven to be popular, with stars such as Joe Montana and Mike Tyson making their own plays into the CBD market. Given all of these celebrities are sports stars, it should be no surprise one of the most commonly referenced uses of CBD is relief from chronic pain.

The Case For Vaping

While CBD has recently become widely accepted for its many uses, the same cannot be said for vaping, likely the most popular way to take CBD. Making matters worse is the amount of evidence we have which suggests vaping is an extremely powerful smoking cessation and harm reduction tool. Public Health England first reported back in 2015 that vaping is at least 95% safer than smoking, but that figure pops up all the time. In fact, in December a report found e-liquid vapor contains around 93% fewer toxicants than cigarette smoke. But to understand just how significant the harm reduction value of vaping is, you should look at the report which found the excess lifetime cancer risk of a vaper is around 57,000 times lower than a demographically similar smoker.

But it’s not just the harm reduction that vaping offers. In fact, some argue the most potent thing e-cigarettes have to offer is their ability to help smokers quit smoking once and for all. For instance, a report conducted by researchers at the University of Louisville tested all the most common smoking cessation methods and tools, including things like cold turkey, nicotine patches, and prescription quit aids. After collecting their data, the team concluded not only are e-cigarettes an effective way to quit smoking, but they’re more likely to succeed than anything else. It’s worth noting most parents and legislators are under the impression vaping will lead to more smokers, but large scale polls beg to differ. A report of over 60,000 students found only between 0.1% and 0.5% of non-smoking teens are ever picking up a vaporizer regularly, let alone switching to cigarettes at some point.

Implications

It’s great to see yet another well-known sports star get into the CBD game. CBD has shown it can be a real game changer for millions of people dealing with a debilitating condition every day. From chronic seizures to chronic pain, CBD is genuinely improving the quality of life for more people all the time. The next couple of years will be critical for not only the CBD industry but vaping at large. As legislators continue to push strict regulations and crippling taxes, the vaping community remains resilient. But it’s as important as ever we spread the good word about vaping to the smokers in our lives. The more people who understand what vaping has to offer, the easier it will be to secure and protect our vaping rights into the future.
